Amon Tobin Live at the Bataclan

Far from the complex jazzy sounds he was used to , Amon Tobin came back to Paris on April 9th to deliver us his new album Foley Room. In front of a heat suffering crowd, Amon Tobin, the amazing producer has certainly puzzled more than one person…

His Set (yes it was a DJ Set), was really a pure DnB/Breakbit one, so that I was asking myself what we were doing in the concert hall and not in a night club where the show would have much more appropriate.
Still, there was nothing to complain about, it was just technically perfect, always in the right tempo, and musicality was nevertheless the main goal of all this.
Amazing beats, among with audacious linking between sequence and a little bit of live sampling allowed the audience to get deep in the soundfull mind of Tobin.

But… something was missing… not much, maybe a few more excerpts from the new release, which would have been a much better introduction to it, and to remind the crowd that he is more that a DJ… much more. His universe is one of the densest in the music industry.

We cannot end this without mentioning Doctor Flake, a French DJ/Producer who was doing the opening act, and who would have deserved some more time, judging from the very high quality of his Drum ‘n Bass set.
